Monica Visscher had been pregnant two times before. She knew a thing or two about having a baby and was familiar with the prenatal care drill.

Her third pregnancy was a little different.

Her midwife suggested a novel approach to prenatal care: group appointments called CenteringPregnancy. At these, moms with similar due dates are seen at the same time instead of at individual appointments with their doctor or midwife.

They discuss topics of comparable concern and build a base of friendship. ...
